Future Freelancers in Girona

DMU Made’s hugely successful Future Freelancers initiative took on an international flavour last month, with the programme delivering a special DMU Global Trip to Girona in Northern Spain. Current students from a diverse range of degree subjects and faculties joined the entrepreneurial adventure, alongside members of the DMU Made team, exploring the links between Freelancing and the Creative Industries.

An action-packed 5 days saw the Future Freelancers throw themselves into a range of activities including visits to two amazing Catalan co-working spaces of different sizes, inside and outside of Girona’s stunning historical centre. Staff at both ‘B&Co Girona’ and ‘Cooking’ went above and beyond to provide an incredible insight into the region’s rich co-working offer. Resident entrepreneurs at both spaces kindly gave up time to share their stories and advice, and answer some fantastic student questions.

Two interactive Future Freelancers workshops and visits to our partners at ERAM University were other highlights of the trip, with students embracing a range of challenging multi-media group tasks. Girona’s central role in the filming of the hugely popular ‘Game of Thrones’ played a huge part in one of the assignments – to create a ‘GoT-themed’ promotional video for the city.

Following the festive break, the Future Freelancers programme will return with its weekly format of interactive workshops, one-to-ones and co-working sessions, with participants looking ahead to bespoke sessions on wellbeing, Leicester’s creative scene and the evolving relationship between freelancing and Artificial Intelligence.

All of the Future Freelancers who have successfully progressed through the programme will also be honoured at the Freelancing and Entrepreneurship Awards on Tuesday 10th February. Tickets for this unmissable FREE event are available via these links:
